Fuck Yeah Healthy Before & Afters

I frankly have no idea what I weighed in the left photo, but I know it was easily around my highest weight. I was generally in good health in that I didn’t get sick, however I had high cholesterol, problems sleeping, walking long distances, and could barely make it up a flight of stairs without getting winded. These days, I have none of these problems. My energy levels are through the roof, I love to run, and although I haven’t had it tested recently, I’m going to hazard a guess that my lipid levels are at an all-time low. I still have about 15-20 lbs to go before I make my goal, but at this point I’m more concerned about building my strength and endurance than numbers on a scale. All thanks to a year plus of clean eating, staying active, but NEVER “dieting” or depriving myself. :)

Now: May, 16, 2013 -128-130 & toned
The day the “before” picture was taken was after my mom came to visit. She had brought me gifts of cloths which were “maternity” sizes without her knowledge. The very next day I made the choice to change my life. 60 pounds later (with diet only), I was flabby but satisfied with all the hard work. As the year passed on and came the new year of 2013, I decided to start working out to better my health. Cardio every day and training three days a week. Still losing the fat, but gaining muscle. Now I can finally say I am happy with my body. I am truly embarrassed to show my “before” picture to anyone as it makes me uncomfortable, but I felt it was fair as it was all the “before and after” pictures that roamed on tumblr that gave me the motivation to keep going. Thank you tumblr.

So this is me (bethgetsfit) 1 year apart, April 2012 to May 2013. One day I just got fed up with constantly feeling tired and sluggish, and decided to do something about it.The majority of the weight loss happened in the first 6 months, and after that I have been in a slow loss / maintenance period. I try to exercise 4 days a week although I don’t always make that. On a good week I will cycle to work 4 x a week, jog 3 x a week and also do a body weight strength workout 2 or 3 x a week. Whilst I don’t think that counting calories is a good idea and it’s definitely not for everyone, I do track sporadically to see how I am getting on. I generally eat 1500 - 2200 per day depending on my activity level. I currently eat about 50-70% clean and that’s something I want to work on.Before I started this journey my metabolism was completely shot from 10 years of (unintentional) starving and binging. I felt neither hunger signals nor a feeling of fullness when I ate. I gained weight despite eating what seemed like very little food, and everything I did was slow. I still struggle with binging occasionally and I’m still constantly fighting the urge to just spend whole days in bed. However, I now eat well, feel fantastic and, most importantly, feel hunger and fullness! This journey is still ongoing for me, but this picture is just a reminder to not be so hard on myself. I’ve come a long way.

These photos were taken 30 lbs apart, at almost the halfway point in my weight loss journey. I was at my goal weight when I started college, but somehow I managed to gain 60 lbs in the four years before I graduated. I was complacent with my heavy weight and unhealthy lifestyle for a long time, but something just clicked inside my head this past summer and I decided I’d had enough.
I’ve made a lot of progress on this journey with my weight (I’ve lost 34.7 lbs thus far), but more importantly I’ve adopted a completely new lifestyle - one focused on health, fitness, and lifelong maintenance. I’m using the Weight Watchers plan currently (I lost the first 22 lbs on my own with portion control and exercise), because I’ve had success with it in the past and I feel most comfortable on it. But tracking my food doesn’t even begin to cover the changes I’ve made. I have 31.3 lbs left to lose and some lofty fitness goals to meet!
Please, join me in my journey by following my blog: journeyofcurves :) I’m tracking my weight loss journey in detail and I’m trying to inspire and motivate as I do it! I’m a freelance writer, so along with my daily food trackers and motivational posts, I write some longer posts about various weight and health related topics (some recent posts: Shutting Down Body Shaming, The Horrors of Women’s Sizing, Satisfaction While Socializing). Creating a support system (online or in real life) is crucial to success in this journey and maintenance of a healthy lifestyle, so I hope we can share our journeys and support one another! I hope you enjoy my blog and I look forward to getting to know you! <3

So this is me. I’m 5’5” and have always had a rough relationship with myself image. A year ago, I decided to change my life. I’ve lost right around 70 pounds and I have a goal of about 30 more. I don’t deprive myself of anything, but moderation for everything. I’m still a work in progress, but I really wanted to post this now for my own motivation. I recently injured my knee and it has been keeping me from exercising 4 days a week, so I wanted to remind myself just how far I’ve come.
I have an inactive fitblr (I started developing unhealthy habits with comparing my own journey to others), but you can always get a hold of me on itspronouncedlikeitssaid.tumblr.com.

I’d been big pretty much my entire life, starting from when I was really young. One day I woke up one hot Australian summer day and said “You know what? I’m going swimming” And that’s what I did, every day for the entire summer for 2 hours at a time I would swim. A few months down the track I tried zumba, fell inlove with it, then pushed myself into harder things such as bootcamp, THT or pump. I changed my diet and ate CLEAN. No refined crap. I eat great food but I eat healthy food. So many berries, so much fruit, heaps of vegetables, the RIGHT carbs and lean protein. You can have a treat, I always do. I still eat dark chocolate every now and then. Took me two years but I got there.

6’0”, in the before picture I was 272, in the after picture I’m 201. In March I overheard my roommate and a classmate talk about going to the gym and working out and was immediately interested. My classmate, Travis, was already I’m great shape and offered to help, but I would have to be 100% dedicated. Everyday he would write down a workout plan and I would do it. I would bust my ass and work muscles I had no idea existed. I started working out in March and by July I had lost 70 pounds. I ate regularly and healthy. I still run everyday, and I’ve dedicated a lot of my time helping my friends with their fitness and workout goals.
